Radar on Chip for Cars – German initiative

img_2009_05_28_radsensorik_en‘Radar on chip for cars’ (RoCC) is the name of a joint effort to drive the development of radar technology for automotive use. The group embraces luxury car manufacturers BMW AG and Daimler AG, automotive tier ones Bosch and Continental and chip vendor Infineon Technologies.

The group aims at developing radar automotive applications as the central technology basis for future driver’s assistance systems. The development will significantly increase driving safety by making highly reliable radar systems available in all vehicle classes, the group said in a statement.

The three-year project has a budget of €17 million (about $23.6 million) which includes a financial grant of €8.3 million from the German government as part of its ITK2020 program focusing on automotive electronics innovation.
