Russia: AvtoVAZ to start fitting navigation systems with GLONASS receivers?

AvtoVAZ  may begin to equip their cars with GLONASS navigation systems from this year. A project is underway, whose first phase will include equipping GLONASS systems on 10-15 thousand cars on the assembly line in 2009.  The first phase of the project is estimated to cost several tens of millions of dollars.

Not surprisingly, the project is looking for government support, because such a “forced” installation of GLONASS will create a consumer market for domestic navigation system – a task that has not yet been solved by any other means of public incentives.
